Can Your Secretary Of State Tweet?
By
David Wanetik
Based upon a recent survey, more and more government offices including the offices of the Secretaries of State are using the personal websites which we all use daily.
It is no longer unusual for a Secretary of State office to have a blog, a page on Facebook, a Twitter account and occasionally post an item on You Tube. While there are various uses, they are often used to promote specific initiatives. The typical comment is that the offices feel that this is the best way to communicate with constituents.
While some offices may restrict usage of such sites as Facebook or MySpace, it is often up to the individual user.
Many of the responses were that for marketing and other purposes, those offices which currently don't have access have upcoming marketing plans which will allow them to connect to Facebook, Twitter and You Tube sites.
While electronic filing and searching flourished following the adoption of Revised Article 9 in 2001, the offices of the Secretary of State have taken modern technology to the next step and are communicating with the customers using these new Web sites. They are to be congratulated for continuing to adapt to new and improved means of communication.
